In the world of independent leadership, any product pushed the technology beyond the legal way of Tesla. Under the right conditions, and autopilot accelerate, brake and steering for the driver, provided you've got your hands on the steering wheel. Gizmag hit the road in the P90D S model to test the system.
Autopilot utilizes a wide army of sensors and cameras to steer the car. Up front, theres a radar unit and a camera to read the lines on the road. These sensors work with ultrasonic 12 long-range project 16 feet (4.8 meters) in each direction around the car, in order to build a clear picture of what is sitting beside and behind you at any speed.
The thought of all this technology works behind the scenes, with no way for the driver to know what is going on is a little scary. Tesla to provide some peace of mind through the dashboard has appeared, with an S model has been updated to include the display picture of the car, which gives an indication of what the car is witnessing.
Auto show in your lane so little of Model S on the screen, and there are small colored lines that pop up around the edge of the car and start the obstacles to creep into your own personal space vehicles. Reassuring to realize that Tesla believes that curb that caught your eyes, though, to watch the lines go from green, to orange and wondering what if the car will react as a good test of your nerve.
What does all this mean? Well, here at Gizmag we went the extra mile to see: we turned off the interior of our control freak, run autopilot and let the car do the work for us.
